Munnar at Magical Minus

Imagine sipping a cup of coffee during a holiday with a minus freezing temperature outside, or holding hands with your loved one and gazing at the endless tea plantations glazing with bits of ice.  It is the dream of every Keralite to see snow someday. What if it is possible to have the experience without moving out of Kerala? Slip into a magical land like ‘Frozen’ and be the Elza of your dreams by experiencing the zero degree celsius of Munnar.

Munnar has always been a favorite spot among travelers for its excellent scenery, rocky hills, grassy meadows, plunging waterfalls, deep forests, wildlife, etc. But for the past few days, Munnar has been in the news for its amazingly cold climate. It was magic in Munnar when the temperature dropped below 0 and everything froze. This climate has been overpowering the region of Munnar for two years, during the months of December and January.  Several Meteorologists assume that the clear sky, the withdrawal of the South West and North East Monsoon, and the intense rainfall in November and December delayed the arrival of winter here. Shrubs, trees, grasslands, and plantations turned into a great site in white, and tourists from all parts of the State are rushing in to experience this rare thing. Frost fall was reported in the Chenduvarai estate of Kannan Devan Plantations on Wednesday. Though there was significant damage to the crops, the sight was ecstatic for every onlooker. Wouldn’t you love a stroll through the frozen tea plantations, cycle through the curvy trails in your hoodies, and trek hilly mountains exhaling the snowy mist? Munnar town, Nallathanni, and Mattupetty regions had 3 degrees while Silent Valley experienced 1 degree in the past few days. It is believed that other areas of Munnar are also bound to experience minus degree temperatures in the coming days. There is an increased tourist rush in this area after the temperature dropped low.

What is more exciting than an accessible vacation spot with an icy cold climate? Pack your bags and enjoy a ‘snow-cation’ with your family!
