Munnar Flower Show, a Colourful Visual Feast

With vast green landscapes, misty mountains, magical waterfalls, and a super breezy climate, Munnar has undoubtedly stolen the hearts of many. Apart from the wild terrains and adventurous activities, there was another reason why tourists stormed the place in the past few days. Munnar, the home of Neelakurinji, hosted a spectacular ten-day flower show which started on May 1st and ended on May 10th. The dashing event displayed over 10000 beautiful flowers on a six Acre site at the Government Botanical Garden. Organized under District Tourism Promotion Council, Idukki. Mohammed Riyas, Minister at the Department of Tourism inaugurated the show.

More than 3000 Roses and 2000 dahlias were displayed in the garden along with imported tulips, olive, magnolia, Euca silver, Camelia, Petro Crotons, and different varieties of trees and plants. The vast stretch of aromatic flowers stole the heart of each onlooker. Apart from grown varieties, the garden also showcased indigenous flower species of Munnar and other exotic varieties as well.

Visitors were permitted from 9 AM to 8:30 PM on all days. The flower show was made eventful with numerous stage programs, music events, DJ concerts, and food festivals and attracted more than 10000 visitors including tourists from outside Kerala. The show was curated in such a way that each person that attended the show, from a baby to senior citizen found an element to enjoy.

The flower show can be considered as a symbol of all the major tourist activities that are to follow in the state of Kerala this year. As a major successful event in the industry, it is expected to boost the tourism activities in Munnar after the Covid 19 Crisis. With Northern parts of the country entering the hottest summers ever recorded, travelers and tourists find solace in the cool breeze of Munnar. With the revival of international tourism, Munnar is expected to return to its prime time.  

The botanical garden, with numerous flowers and rare species of plants, is a must visit place for travelers.  Located under 8km from Devonshire Greens resort, it will take only less than 20 mins to reach the garden.
